Avilene ate cinnamon raisin English muffin and two servings of mandarin oranges for breakfast. For lunch she ate ground beef, whole wheat elbow noodles, a few peas, and ate applesauce.
Well my photos are in the computer, but I can't access them to this program. Which of course messes with my Blogging plan for today and actually every day!! I use the pictures to tell the stories and it's much easier to explain something the kids have been doing. So I'll be working on solving that issue tonight.
Science with Lauralea: We began by talking about our experiments with seeds from last week. You've seen the seeds sprouting in the sealed baggies with water-soaked paper towels. We compared those bags with one bag we put in a dark closet. The seeds in the closet with no light actually did start to sprout, but it's not very healthy looking (very pale instead of green) and very spindly.
Our theme for today was Magnets and we had at least 6 different experiments we did. First one was simply to select 10 - 12 items from the pile on the table and see which ones responded to magnets. We had two buckets; one for magnet success and one magnet unsuccessful. :) Then we each had a glass of water and chose 3 items to put in the glass. They used their magnets on the outside of the glass to see if they could lift them to the top and out of the water. Then we tried magnet jumping!! :) Using a measuring stick we tried different items and the best one jumped 1.5 inches in response to the magnet.
More fun: Can we move a little race car across the table with a magnet without touching the car! Yup we can. Two magnets together will push against (or repel) each other. Everyone got a chance to do this. Another activity was painting with steel marbles using a magnet. Last, but not least was fishing for colored paper clips using a magnet on the end of a string. Each child was assigned a color and fished for that color. Except for Svea; she was catching schools of multicolored fish. Haha.
